To begin with:
When you are researching monitors or want to buy a good quality monitor, it is normal for you to watch various videos or read articles about monitors. Everywhere you look today, the tide of protectionist sentiment is flowing. G-Sync and FreeSync. How does it work? Which will be better for you? I will discuss all these issues today. But first of all, if you are not a gamer or do not want to buy a monitor for gaming, then two things are not very important for you, but it is very important to know in the case of gaming PC.
Before talking about "G-Sync" and "FreeSync" you need to have a clear idea about some of the basics, let's look at those topics first.
Frame Rate & Refresh Rate
Having a monitor with a refresh rate of 60 Hz means that it can show you 60 images per second, as well as 60 images per second with the GPU. So the monitor has a Refresh Rate limit, it never shows more images, but the GPU sometimes generates more images than a certain frame rate and that's when the problem occurs. Problems also occur when the GPU sends 60 or more images to a 60 Hz monitor and again when images are sent less than 60.
Screen Stuttering
Suppose your monitor has a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Now if the GPU generates less than 80 images, the monitor will not get enough images and the video will show slowly. This is called Screen Stuttering.
Screen Tearing
What Is Adaptive Sync?
Adaptive Sync is the technology used to maintain the frame rate of the GPU and monitor at the same time. In this technology, the monitor is synchronized according to the GPU, so that the GPU does not have a problem with the monitor even if it produces more images or screen stuttering does not have a problem even if it produces less images.
And this technology is called Nvidia as G-Sync and AMD as FreeSync. Running old games does not require a simple Adaptive Sync, so you do not have to think about the Refresh Rate on the monitors separately, but when it comes to the current high graphical games, Adaptive Sync is definitely needed.
FreeSync
FreeSync is AMD's technology used in AMD graphics cards, which Nvidia users cannot use. Free-Sync is not available on all monitors again Monitors that only support VESA Adaptive-Sync have FreeSync. FreeSync can work simultaneously on HDMI and DisplayPort.
FreeSync is not supported for any monitor because it requires the monitors to go through certain tests and fill up certain benchmarks.
In terms of price, FreeSync monitors are cheaper than G-Sync because they use VESA open-source.
G-Sync
NVIDIA's Adaptive Sync is called G-Sync. Where Free-Sync technology uses an open-source program, this is done through a separate chip in G-Sync. Since a separate chip is needed, G-Sync monitors are a bit more expensive. However, having G-Sync means that you are getting Adaptive Sync of great technology, there is no reason to think that there are three types of G-Sync technology.
G-Sync, G-Sync Ultimate, and G-Sync Compatible Among these three technologies, G-Sync is the standard version, G-Sync Compatible is the budget friendly version and the premium version is called G-Sync Ultimate. G-Sync Ultimate is suitable for those who want to buy a monitor at a higher price.
Which is better for you - G-Sync or Free-Sync
Choosing one of these two Adaptive Sync technologies or saying which one is better is quite a complex matter. But it can also be done in a simple way. If your system is AMD and you do not want to change, then Free-Sync is your only choice.
Similarly if you use Nvidia graphics card G-Sync is suitable for you.
There is not much difference between the two technologies in the Lower Resolution, but you can see some differences between the 1080p and 60Hz monitors. However if you want high performance and want to reduce the cost then you can opt for Free-sync as it will be budget friendly.
But if you want very high quality performance and uninterrupted performance of 4K and HDR then G-Sync is not an option. In most cases Free-Sync is enough but G-Sync will be better for great performance.
Last word
Naturally, the performance of G-Sync Ultimate surpasses that of Free-Sync. And since Nvidia is currently the market leader in terms of graphics, it would be better to choose G-Sync if you have a sufficient budget.
Stay well until today, like today, until the next post. God is Ha-Fez.
