If you want to rename many files at once then this tune is for you.
First you need to download and install the PowerToys software. Once the software is installed, open it and click on Power Rename. Enable the Enable Power Rename option from the right side. Close the application.
How to rename files
After installing the software and enabling Power Rename, enter the folder in which you want to rename the files. After selecting all the files, right click and click on Power Rename.
After clicking, the Power Rename software will open.
It basically works on search and replace mechanism, you write in the first field which one you want to find in the next field which name will be replaced. Suppose the names of my files start with P4, now I want to name them photo_. Then in the first box I will write P4 and in the second box I will write photo_.
At the same time the software has several options, let's describe them.
Use Regular Expressions: This will be the search and replacement work through complex search strings called Regular expressions.
Case Sensitive: Letters will be replaced in all cases up or down, for example, if you select "dog"
will be replaced in the case of "Dog".
Match All Occurrences: Normally the search is replaced from the beginning after the replacement but if you check it, everything will be replaced.
Exclude Files: If you select this, this rename will only apply to folders, not file rename.
Exclude Folders: In this case only the file will be renamed .
Exclude Subfolder Items: Checking here will not affect the files in the subfolder .
Enumerate Items: The files will be renamed along with the number counter.
Item Name Only: If you select it, the rename will only be for the name, it will not affect the extension.
Item Extension Only: If you check it, only the extension will be changed. The folder or file name will remain unchanged.
However, when everything is ready, click on Rename. If you don't like the first name, press Ctrl + Z.
Give the file a completely new name
So far we have seen how to select a specific name and replace it with another name. Let's see how to give a completely new name to all the files. To do this, first select all the files,
first type in the "Search for" box (. *) Means that everything will be selected, Replace with the specific name in the box, then one by one, Use Regular Expressions, "Enumerate Items," and "Item Name Only." Check the options.
And look at the magic!
Last word
Hopefully there will be no problem to rename more than one file at once.
Until today, see you in the next post, stay well until then. God bless you!
